DCBC's 150th anniversary reception – 28 November 2012

The Butterfield Cafe was opened by the Master on 7 November 2012 after an extensive refurbishment programme.

 Pre-dinner drinks in the Grace Howard Room, Alumni Day 2012 Alumni Day went off just as well as ever, with wine tasting events, an exhibition of the College silver, the Downing Association AGM and, of course, the Association Dinner – photographs here.

1749 Garden Party – 21 July 2012

The annual Garden Party for the members of the 1749 Society - those who have told us that they have left Downing College a legacy in their wills – was held in the Master's Garden on Saturday 21 July - photographs here.

Griphon House opens – 18 July 2012

 Exterior of newly refurbished Griphon House, July 2012 The newly refurbished 14 Regent Street, a former office block, now houses 22 en-suite rooms for freshers. Outside term time, the rooms will be available as B & B accommodation.

  • W1 rowed over to hold the Lents Headship for the second year in a row.
  • M1 rowed over every day in 2nd place behind Caius.
  • M2 bumped every day and achieved blades.
  • W2 bumped up two places.
  • M3 bumped up three places.

Howard Theatre Handover – 4 December 2009

Her Majesty The Queen Visits Cambridge to Celebrate 800th Anniversary – 19 November 2009

Barry Everitt with the JCR and MCR Presidents Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Chancellor of the University, visited Cambridge on 19 November as part of the 800th Anniversary celebrations.

Downing's Master, Professor Barry Everitt, together with Katie Marshall (JCR President) and Brett Kennedy (MCR President) were among the lucky few who had the opportunity to meet Her Majesty.

Downing Launches Catalysis – 2 November 2009

The Master launches Catalysis, 9 November 2009  Downing has launched Catalysis, a comprehensive fundraising campaign with a goal to raise £20 million for the College's endowment by the end of 2015. The Master, Professor Barry Everitt, officially announced Catalysis on Monday 2 November at the RAF Club, Piccadilly, before an audience of over 200 Downing members.
