Cancellation of this event due to restrictions caused by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The College has with great regret decided to cancel this event. Safeguarding the health and well-being of alumni, friends, students and staff is our main priority – due to the rapidly developing global situation regarding COVID-19, and following guidance from the Collegiate University and Public Health England about coronavirus, we have decided to cancel events which might pose a risk in the near term.

 

 

Annual Reunion Dinner 2020

A complimentary, black-tie dinner is for members who matriculated in 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010, as well as for all those who matriculated in 1957 and before

Saturday 4 April 2020; 19.00–22.00

Booking is on a first-come, first-served basis, so please sign up early to avoid disappointment! Because of space restrictions in the Hall, we are unable to welcome guests to dinner on this occasion, unless they are qualifying alumni.* You must book for the dinner to reserve your place, even though there is no charge.

Accommodation is available in College at a special, discounted rate from Friday 3 April to Sunday 5 April, inclusive. Room keys will be available from the Porters' Lodge; check-in is from 14:00 and please check out by 10:00 the following morning. Breakfast is served in the Hall from 08:00 to 09:30. Accessible rooms are available - please let us know when you book, if you have particular access requirements.

Please also let us know if you are a Blue Badge holder and require disabled parking.

Timetable for Saturday 4 April

14:00–15:45 – An opportunity to see the current archive exhibition marking 40 Years of Women at Downing, in the Maitland Robinson Library with Jenny Ulph, College Archivist (drop-in session).

15:00–16:00 – Panel discussion in the Howard Theatre chaired by Professor Phyllis Lee, former Downing Fellow and Dean, and currently Professor of Psychology at the University of Stirling. Other members of the panel to be confirmed.

16:00-17:30 –  Registration in the Grace Howard Room, with complimentary tea and biscuits. The Alumni Association will be present selling merchandise and selected highlights from the archive exhibition will be on show.

16:00 & 16:30 - Guided tours of the Heong Gallery, led by Dr Prerona Prasad, Exhibitions Officer and Gallery Supervisor. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the arrival of the first women undergraduates at Downing College, the Heong Gallery is mounting an exhibition of works by and of women in college art collections in Cambridge over the last 100 years. WE ARE HERE charts the appearance of women on the walls of Cambridge Colleges, sometimes well before they appeared in the halls as full members. 

19:00-19:30 – Drinks reception in the Grace Howard Room.

19:30–21:30 – Dinner in the Hall

21:30–23:30 - Cash bar in the Drawing Room of the Howard Building - please note that the College is now completely cashless: you will need credit or debit cards, or Apple Pay or Google Pay, in order to pay for drinks. 

 * Qualifying alumni are those who matriculated in years ending in '0' or before 1958.
