Freshers' Parents' Lunch 2019
SATURDAY 9 NOVEMBER 2019; 12:00–14:30
This is a reception and sit-down lunch for the parents and guardians of first-year undergraduates. There is no charge for this event. Students may attend, but numbers are limited to a maximum of 2 attendees per family because space in the Hall is limited. For example, one parent or guardian may attend with the Fresher, two parents or guardians may attend without the Fresher, or one parent or guardian may attend with another family member or guest.
Please meet in the Grace Howard Room for the pre-lunch drinks reception, from 12:00 to 12:30 (plans of the College are available here). The Downing College Alumni Association will be in attendance, selling Association merchandise - buy in person and save on postage!
Lunch will be in the Hall from 12:30. The meal will be followed by short speeches by the Master, the Senior Tutor and a representative of the JCR Committee.
Booking for these events has now closed.
Freshers' Parents' Tour 2019
14:30–15:30
A historical and architectural tour of the College, led by Dr Paul Millett, the Vice Master, will follow lunch in the Hall. Those booked on the tour will meet in the Senior Combination Room after lunch. Participation in this event is strictly limited to those who have pre-booked, and is weather dependent. You are advised to bring a coat or jacket, as part of the tour is outside, and to wear flat shoes – our gravel paths are notoriously hard on high heels!
Unable to attend the Freshers' Parents' lunch, but would like to hear from us?
Parents and guardians of Freshers who register for the lunch and who do not opt out of communications will also receive, during the time that their Fresher is a student at Downing, the annual Dow@Cam magazine, an invitation to our annual Advent Carol Service and e-newsletters about Downing. If you are unable to attend the Freshers' Parents' Lunch but would like to register with us for these communications, please email the Alumni & Development Office.
