Cash Donations
Under Gift Aid charities can recover the 20% basic rate tax that you have already paid on your gift. Higher rate taxpayers can personally reclaim the difference between the higher and basic rates of tax (currently 40%-20%=20%). Because basic rate tax went down from 22% to 20% in April 2008, the Government is offering transitional relief to charities for a period of time to ensure that we don't lose out so we still get back an amount equivalent to 22% tax.
